May 24, 2002 became our anniversary, not because of careful planning for months, but because it was a day Army gave us off for memorial weekend and we, still in AIT at the time, could get off Fort Sam Houston post. Our courtship was short. We knew of each other 3.5 months and actually dated even less.

One month ago today, Jason and I celebrated 18 years of marriage. What a ride it has been.   A lot of ups and downs, five states, and two babies later, here we are. My parents will celebrate 46 years this August. They have always been my example, as parents often are. But wisdom comes from many sources and the first time I was told that I would never be enough for my husband and he would never be enough for me unless God was at the center of our marriage came from my physician. I didn’t understand it at the time. After accepting Christ in my heart in early 2017, my journey to understanding God’s role began.

As believers we are called to always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have (1Peter 3:15). My marriage is my testimony for anyone who asks. We asked for God’s blessing for our marriage but we left God out of the everyday things for years. The hope I have in Jesus is because of how he transformed my heart and revealed depths of love I never knew existed. I didn’t know I could love Jason any more than I already did. The new heart gave me new eyes for what really mattered. We were able to celebrate our 18th anniversary because we began to see each other and honor each other as the treasured union God blessed in that court house back in 2002.
