There are times I am reminded of why God created us to be social creatures, to be with others and not by ourselves. We are reminded that together we are better because there is not one of us that is gifted in all areas. We complement each other in practical yet extraordinary ways. What each person brings to the table is an offering to all others. Then there are times when we need others to see us. It’s great to have others cheer you on while having a mountaintop moment, but it’s essential to have someone throw you a life line when you are drowning in the sea.

For me that lifeline is someone in my corner who sees me…disoriented.

Reminding me to look at God

Reminding me that I can do it

Reminding me to continue walking

Reminding me to not rely on my feelings

Reminding me that circumstance do not usurp the Truth

Reminding me who’s voice to listen to

For me this someone is often my husband. He can look at me with his eyes and heart and see that I am disoriented, I am not myself. And as tears well up in my eyes when he asks “what’s wrong?” He hugs me and gently encourages me into going for a walk. I need this because when I am drowning in the sea, I want to retract, to wall up and be by myself. So going outside interacting with others is what I need. When I consider not attending my women’s bible study, he gently tells me I need to go and that I will feel better when it’s done.

I know this. This is why we need people who love the Lord around us to remind us of the Truth. Sometimes the shield of faith that protects us is not our own but of someone who sees us.

I thank God for you, Jason.

“So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11

“Love is patient and kind. love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. it is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice at injustices, but rejoices when the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
