I love my small groups 🙂 Do you have a small group? Small groups help keep me grounded in the Word while enjoying community with others who are trying to live a life with God in the center. Our couples group met last night to discuss session 2 of “Making Your Case for Christ” by Lee Strobel and Mark Mittelberg.

I arrived grumpy with shoulder pain and hunger pains. I didn’t have time to eat the lasagna dinner made for the family before Jason and I left. It’s embarrassing to admit how angry I was that I couldn’t eat. But something occurred to me on the way to church, my anger was going to interfere with the group interactions. So I reasoned “what if I fast for you Lord? Then I can’t be angry because the sacrifice is for you.” A calm came over me and I knew that was the answer (Note: this is not how fasting is typically decided or done).

So we watched the video and had time to think about our testimony using the three D’s framework introduced in the study – discovery, decision, and difference. Each person gave their testimony. The power of all those stories, the losses, the hurts, the deep valleys, the turning points, the circumstances that confronted our sin, and how the Light, the Truth, and the Way prevailed against all odds. Such vulnerability was shared over tears and laughter – I doubt a single person present was not moved.

Towards the end of group, my stomach growled. I was reminded of my empty stomach but remembered what Jesus said, ” I am the bread of life!” (John 6:48) My soul was being fed through my small group. Jesus knew exactly what I needed and I am so thankful for his love and kindness.
