Every year, I reflect on what has transpired in the past 12 months. Writing down mountaintop moments, valleys, lessons learned and opportunities for improvement or change helps me get out of my head. What was a nebulous mess in my mind becomes more clear when specific things are written down and categorized. There is something honoring about writing these things down. For me taking stock is important to fight the insidious critical inner voice that tells me I have done nothing.

For a few years now I have created a cover to my planner and think of a theme to focus on for the year. In prayer, “the impossible” came to me. The event that came with the impossible was when Jesus fed over 5,000 people with five barley loaves and two fish (Matthew 14:17-18, John 6:9-13, Luke 9:13-17). Black ink was the medium used in previous cover designs, but this year I took a serious leap and went with watercolors. Even as I painted this cover, I had fully intended it to be my practice to then do a better one later, but I kept getting an “it is good” and knew I would keep the “practice” one as the cover. I haven’t touched paints in a VERY long time and in doing this cover, I had forgotten how much I enjoy painting. My daughter watched as I started squeezing out each color and mixing it with water. It didn’t take much to coax her to join me:) She painted cacti with flowers as I painted bread and fish (yeah… those are supposed to be five loaves of bread LOL!! Historically inaccurate loaves of bread, but, bread nonetheless).

I know that with God all things are possible, just can’t wait to see what impossible things He will make possible this year.
