Not sure if Tozer really said this, since I can’t find the source of this quote. What is more fascinating to me is what could have been occurring at that particular time that would qualify it as “critical, dangerous, and tragic.” I wonder what Tozer would make of the hour we live in now.
Truth has become a buzzword tossed around like confetti and made to apply to things that are the antithesis of truth. People don’t really want truth…. they want to be comforted and validated in choices made. We live in a culture now that provides a soft warm blanket of lies to wrap around any choice one could possibly make. I don’t hurl this as an accusation, I state it because I did this for most of my life. My feminist background taught me to critically think, but kept my heart’s eyes sealed from the biggest truths.
Tony Evans had a lot to say about truth. Truth cannot be defined by the individuals who have been created because individuals have finite knowledge and deceitful hearts (Jeremiah17:9). Truth can only be defined by the Creator himself, and at its core is God’s view of the matter. God is the originator of all things true and He does not lie. The world would have us believe that truth is on trial, but it is not, as that would mean that God is on trial, which is absurd. Truth cannot change because we want it to. Truth never adjusts itself to our feelings, hopes, and desires. God’s Word comprise the point of reference by which all else must comply.
There are so many competing narratives in the headlines that claim truth. The only thing that can cut through all the confusion and darkness is Light. Jesus is that Light (John 8:12). Uncertain about the truth? Read about Jesus, because He is also the truth (John 14:6). His credibility is second to none as no one has ever predicted their own death and resurrection and pulled it off……but Jesus did. But don’t take my word for it….read it for yourself in the gospels.
