In November, I started reading the Bible daily using a plan offered in the Our Daily Bread app. The anticipation of what happens next and the delight I found in better understanding our Heavenly Father’s character were answers to a few prayers. God sketches His character with each response, command, rebuke, or blessings He gave over thousands of years. The analogy that comes to mind is woefully inadequate yet still hits the mark in many regards.

Have you ever seen a video that starts with many pictures right next to each other then slowly zooms out, making each of the pictures smaller? There is a point, that sweet spot, where the pictures that are getting smaller no longer seem random, and your eye captures a bigger image being revealed.  That is a bit of what the Bible does for God’s character and likeness. I have enjoyed it so much that it spurred me to look for Bible reading plans to kick-off 2022. I found the oneyearbibleonline.com, which provides a handy checklist of daily readings from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalm, and Proverbs. These checklists can be printed in multiple ways to suit individual needs. I printed one page per month.

Reading every morning doesn’t take as much time as people think, although I have lingered in the notes of the passages I have read. I LOVE how God speaks to me through His Holy Word and teaches me how to live and apply what I read. But then the Bible was always intended to show us the way…..it is ultimately God’s love letter to us.

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105
